What Is Planned Giving?

Planned giving allows you to make a significant charitable gift as part of your estate plan, often with financial benefits for you or your loved ones during your lifetime. Common options include:

• Bequest: Designate Attic Angel Association as a beneficiary in your will or living trust.
• Retirement Plan Assets: Name us as a beneficiary of your IRA, 401(k), or other qualified retirement account.
• Life Insurance Policies: Name Attic Angel as a full or partial beneficiary of an existing or new policy.
• Donor-Advised Funds: Recommend a gift from your DAF or name Attic Angel as a beneficiary.
• Charitable Gift Annuities: These options may offer income for life to you or your loved ones, plus potential tax benefits.
• Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs): If you’re 70½ or older, you can direct a distribution from your IRA (tax-free) to support our mission.

Sample Language for Your Will or Estate Plan

If you are considering including Attic Angel in your will or trust, here is some suggested wording:
“I give [specific amount, percentage, or residue] to Attic Angel Association, a nonprofit organization located in Madison, Wisconsin, for its general purposes (or for the specific fund or program you wish to support).”

The Mahoney Society

Donors who notify us of their legacy commitments are invited to join The Mahoney Society, named for Attic Angel’s beloved founder, Elizabeth “Lizzie” Mahoney.

As a Mahoney Society member, you’ll receive:

• Special recognition at our Legacy Event
• The joy of knowing your legacy will continue to uplift the lives of those we serve

You may choose to remain anonymous. Your gift will still make a difference, whether or not you choose public recognition.

A tribute gift is a meaningful way to honor someone special or remember a loved one while supporting Attic Angel Association’s mission.

Gifts in Memory or in Honor

When you make a gift in memory or in honor of someone, you may choose to notify a family member, friend, or honoree. Attic Angel Association will send an acknowledgment to the contact you provide.

For memorial gifts, families receive the names of those who gave and mailing addresses, but individual gift amounts are never shared.

Including Attic Angel Association in an Obituary

We are honored when families choose to invite memorial gifts to Attic Angel Association in an obituary or memorial notice. Below is sample language you are welcome to use:
Memorial gifts may be made in [Name]’s memory to Attic Angel Association, 640 Junction Rd, Madison WI 53717 or online at: weblink.donorperfect.com/AtticAngelDonate
When donating online, select “I would like to dedicate this donation” and enter [Name] in the “Tribute Name” field.

Forwarding Memorial Donations

If you received a check made payable to you in memory of a loved one and would like to donate it to Attic Angel Association, you may endorse it over to us.

How to endorse a check:

Sign your name on the back of the check and write “Pay to the order of Attic Angel Association.”
Mail or deliver the check to: Attic Angel Association, 640 Junction Rd, Madison WI 53717

Honoring Staff, Volunteers, or Residents

Tribute gifts may also be made in honor of Attic Angel staff members, volunteers, or residents.
Gifts made in honor of a staff member, such as employee appreciation gifts from residents or families, are acknowledged by sharing a list of donor names with the honoree.

When a gift is made in honor of a volunteer or resident, we share the donor’s name and mailing address with the honoree, unless otherwise requested.

If you have specific preferences about how your tribute gift is acknowledged, please include a note with your donation or contact us directly.
