Derek Buckley, who joined Attic Angel Community in 2010, was selected for his creative and forward-thinking operational advancements that promote resident choice, independence and well-being. Some examples of his leadership regarding food service operations are as follow:
• Expanded hours of the Arbor Café to include breakfast and “grab and go” foods
• Restructured menus and payment systems to create an a la cart, restaurant-style system
• Paired chefs with levels of care to improve quality of product and quality of life for residents
In addition, Derek’s leadership demonstrates an understanding of how food service directly affects the lives of residents and connection to others:
• An emerging program of Holistic Nutrition within Attic Angel’s Integrated Health program leans on fresh, locally sourced foods to provide maximum benefits from nature’s pharmacy.
• Newly rebuilt raised garden beds allow residents to grow their own vegetables and connect with nature through the gardening process.
• Residents participate in cooking and baking as part of a monthly activity that supports Madison’s homeless population.
While congratulations and thanks to Derek are in order, it’s the residents of Attic Angel Community who benefit the most!
