The Playing Field

The Playing Field Poster

Children affected by trauma such as homelessness and those with special needs such as autism spectrum disorders have different sensory needs for emotional support that helps them learn to manage behaviors. Our dream is to create a play space that allows children to be successful while ... being kids! Some of our plans:

  • A large open space for running (crowded spaces are often a behavior trigger for children)
  • High fencing and an appropriate climbing structure (children impacted by trauma or those on the autism spectrum often take bigger risks and climb higher)
  • Sensory panels that welcome independent play when children are agitated
  • A maze for children to walk through (this helps the brain to organize)
  • Small structures where children can feel safe
  • Specially designed pieces to work large muscle groups

By helping children at this critical point in their development, your gift will be helping the future of our community!

Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Tours, admissions and visitors on hold!

Updated 3/30/20

Please check back to this page or Attic Angel’s Facebook page for updates. Additional answers to Frequently Asked Questions can be found at this link. If you'd like to make a gift of support that will help cover additional expenses required to keep your loved ones safe, click here.

Because seniors are among those at greatest risk for infection, Attic Angel Community has developed a comprehensive Exposure Prevention Plan, based on recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) and other partners. We have suspended tours, open houses and admissions/move-ins at Attic Angel Place and Prairie Point.* Additional components that affect residents, families, employees and visitors are as follow:

• Restricted Entry: All people entering Attic Angel Place are funneled to one staff entrance and one visitor/resident entrance. Only facility employees and residents are permitted to enter, as well as others approved by special circumstance. The door to the main entry will remain locked during all hours, including business hours, and visitors will use a phone in the vestibule to speak with the receptionist before the doors will be unlocked. We continue to welcome to the appropriate level of care any of our own residents returning from the hospital.

• Health Screening: Employees, residents and pre-approved visitors entering Attic Angel Place will be screened each time they enter. Entry will be refused to anyone experiencing a fever or respiratory symptoms, and anyone with possible exposure to COVID-19 based on travel or work in another health care setting with confirmed COVID-19 cases.

• Hygiene, Cleaning and Disinfection: Attic Angel requires everyone to sanitize their hands upon entry to the building. An alcohol-based hand rub is provided. Our housekeeping staff and others have ramped up the cleaning and disinfection of frequently touched objects and shared surfaces. In addition, we remind all individuals about the importance of frequent and thorough handwashing, proper cough etiquette, and the avoidance of contact with one’s face and with others who may be infected.

• Activities: All group activities have been canceled, but our Angel volunteers, who are not able to enter the building during this time, are still assisting by making social phone calls to residents. Activities and Social Service staff are offering individual visits and distributing games and crafts for residents. The Studio cart is being implemented to visit each resident floor in the Health Center, Haven and Households.

• Communication Options: Families and friends are encouraged to call residents directly to keep them connected and uplifted. If you experience trouble with phone calls, please call us at 608-662-8842 and we can troubleshoot with your loved one. Written cards and letters are welcome morale-boosters too. In addition, video calls are encouraged. Anyone wishing to make such a call to a resident who may not have access to, or ease with, Skype or FaceTime should arrange a time with staff in the appropriate level of care to be sure the resident is equipped to receive the call. Any family or friends who wish to make a video call, but who need a device and/or assistance to make the call, may request an in-person appointment with Attic Angel Association, 640 Junction Road. There, an office has been set aside for this service, and staff will assist you and arrange for the resident to be available. Appointments will be accepted seven days a week from 8am to 4:30pm by calling 608-662-8842.

• Deliveries to Loved Ones: Deliveries may be placed on a table in the vestibule at the front entrance of Attic Angel Place on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 1 to 3 pm and on Saturdays from 9 to 11 am. All items must arrive in a plastic bag with the resident's name, using large letters and written in Sharpee marker. Items will be disinfected before being delivered. Another option for families/friends is to arrange for one of our Angel volunteers to pick up necessary items and deliver them to the facility.

• Pharmacy Delivery: For families needing assistance with managing medications for loved ones, Mallatt’s Pharmacy is a resource. Mallatt’s is welcoming new patients and has committed to delivering medications to our facility during this time. Please contact them directly at 608-310-9922 for more information.

• Social Activity: Residents may not visit any levels of care within the building other than their own. We also ask that they limit contact as much as possible with each other and honor social distancing protocol by keeping 6 feet away from others.

• Dining: All communal dining has been suspended, and meals are being delivered directly to residents. The room tray charge has been waived for the duration of the pandemic. Café services are available for pick-up or delivery only.

• Salon: The on-site hair salon is closed. We will work with any affected residents to add hair washing to their bathing routines.

We will monitor guidance and recommendations from the CDC, CMS and DHS continually and update our Plan accordingly. We thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation to help keep our residents as safe as possible during this crisis. More information is provided by CMS and the CDC.
